Our Appointment System
COVID-19 Update - Due to the coronavirus pandemic we have switched to telephone consultations with all our GPs and Urgent Care Team. If a clinician needs to see you they will arrange a face-2-face appointment once they have triaged you over the telephone.
In September 2020 we made the decision to turn all appointments other than nursing appointments into “bookable on the day”. Due to the coronavirus pandemic our appointment times have increased from 10 minutes to an average of 20 minutes meaning there are fewer appointments to offer to patients, and demand from patients for GP services has also increased since the release of the lockdown. This meant that patients were on average waiting 3-4 weeks to speak to a doctor and we were experiencing a significant number of patient complaints that the wait was unacceptable.
On average every day we have 60 routine appointments available from 8am. On busier days (such as Mondays) these may all be booked by 9am. However, on quieter days we have found that we have surplus appointments still in the afternoon. Patients now find instead of waiting 3-4 weeks for a routine appointment they either get one on the day or within a couple of days of trying.
The following doctors offer routine appointments on the following days:
Dr Leeman (Monday, Tuesday, & Thursday)
Dr King (Wednesday, Thursday, & Friday)
Dr Das (Tuesday & Friday)
Dr Jackson (Wednesday, Thursday, & Friday)
Dr Turnbull ( Monday, Tuesday, & Wednesday)
We run a system based on minuted appointment slots. We believe that an appointment type system enables busy patients to plan their day in advance and reduces the waiting time inherent in a “drop-in” system.
Please telephone 01989 763535, select the appointments option and let the receptionist know who you would like to speak to and a provide brief description of your symptoms. All our receptionists are fully trained in care navigation and will refer you to the most appropriate clinician and/or service.
Urgent Care Team
If you feel that you have a medical problem that requires urgent assessment you will be referred to the Urgent CareTeam. The team consists of a Duty Doctor, an Advanced Nurse Practitioner and two Primary Care Practitioners. The team work together to assess your problem and organise a pathway of care that is the most appropriate for you.
Please telephone the surgery on 01989 763535 as early as possible, and state that you need to be seen urgently. The reception staff will ask a few questions to help assess your condition. You will then be offered either a telephone appointment or asked to come in to the Rapid Access Clinic.
